Q: When should I use the DECKHAND?
A: To
maintain your deck's appearance, use the tool whenever unsightly debris
accumulates in the gaps. To help prevent dry rot damage, it is very
important to thoroughly clean the debris out prior to the onset of the
rainy season.
Q:
My deck boards are quite closely spaced, will the DECKHAND work on my
deck? How thick is the stainless steel tool head?
A: The
tool head is the thickness of "a nickel coin plus a business card" (0.090").
You can use one of the following sized nails to test if the gaps in
your deck are large enough for the tools to work properly: 6d Common;
8d Box (2.5"); and 10d Finish (all are 0.115" thick). Or you can fold
a thin business card around a nickel and use that as a gauge. If your
deck was originally constructed with the normal "16d nail spacing" between
the surface boards, the DECKHAND will work perfectly.
Q:
How deep into the gaps between boards does the tool head reach? Does
the depth change depending on the angle that the handle of the DECKHAND
is held?
A: The
tool head is sized to clean the whole depth of the gap between standard
2" deck boards (1.5" actual thickness) at whatever angle the handle
is held. The DECKHAND has the patented feature of Constant Depth Control:
this enables the tool to reach the same depth into the gap at any angle
the handle is held, without contact or interference with your deck's
substructure.
Q:
Is the DECKHAND guaranteed?
A: All
our tools are built to last a lifetime, and Clear The Deck Tool Company
guarantees this product to be free of any defects in materials and workmanship
for normal home owner's use on architectural wooden decks.
